McCarthy: Bishop's hit on Newton was 'perfect'

Even though Desmond Bishop was penalized, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says the linebacker's hit on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was an example of perfect tackling form.

McCarthy says coaches showed video of Bishop's hit to the team as a ''a classic example of a perfect tackle.''

Bishop was penalized for roughing the passer after hitting Newton in the first quarter of Sunday's victory at Carolina. McCarthy went out of his way to not directly criticize officials, saying he understands there is judgment involved in making the call.

Bishop doesn't think he did anything wrong, saying, ''If I thought it was illegal, I wouldn't have done it.''

Bishop says he has not received a fine from the NFL.
