News: Kiwanuka was released by the Giants on Tuesday, NFL.com's Kimberly Jones reports.
Impact: The 32nd overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Kiwanuka has 38.5 sacks over nine NFL seasons, all spent with Big Blue. He only had 2.5 sacks in 12 games in 2014, and while his knee should be healthy before training camp, he may have trouble landing a starting job.

News: The New York Giants have released Kiwanuka in a move that clears about $4.8 million of space under the NFL salary cap.
Impact: The NFL Players Association estimates the new salary cap will rise to $143 million. Cutting Kiwanuka's contract, which had a year to run at $4.775 million, increased the Giants' cap space to nearly $23 million. A big chunk of the total will likely go to either signing unrestricted defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to a long-term deal or placing the nearly $15 million franchise tag on him.
