Report: George, Pacers near max deal

All-Star forward Paul George finalizing maximum contract extension with Indiana Pacers, according to a report.

The Pacers don't want Paul George to become a free agent next summer. He says he wants to stay in Indiana.

Both sides might get what they want as the All-Star forward and the Pacers are finalizing a five-year, $90 million-plus maximum contract, according to Yahoo Sports.

George, 23, emerged as an All-Star in his third NBA season. He averaged 17.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists and was voted the league's Most Improved Player and a third-team All-NBA selection.

He averaged 19.2 points in the playoffs as the Pacers reached the Eastern Conference finals and pushed the Miami Heat to seven games.

George is part of the 2010 draft class that has until Oct. 31 to agree upon extensions to avoid restricted free agency next summer. A deal is expected to be signed this week, according to Yahoo.
