During the WrestleMania 32 pre-show on Sunday night, WWE announced that the Divas championship was officially being retired in favor of a new women's title that would be handed out later in the night.
WWE Hall of Famer Amy Dumas -- better known by her wrestling moniker Lita -- made the announcement during WrestleMania 32 while unveiling the brand new championship belt.

The women's championship dates back more than 50 years with names like the Fabulous Moolah, Wendi Richter, Alundra Blayze, Sable and Lita holding the title.
The women's title was eventually merged into the Divas title in 2010 and that has been the primary belt defended in the WWE ever since.

Trish Stratus, who was one of the most popular and well known women's wrestlers in WWE history, commented on the new title being introduced after the announcement at WrestleMania on Sunday.
"And she's back! So go get it girls, this is what you (we) have been fighting for," Stratus wrote. "No matter the outcome, you all will be in the historybooks for restoring the integrity and credibility of the women's division. The ladies of the Diva's division paved the way for you – this is something I'm sure they would have wanted, but regardless, they fought just as hard and had matches that matter just as much as the ones will moving forward."
The Divas title has been retired with the women's championship reborn with the winner of the triple threat match at WrestleMania 32 crowning a new queen of the ring.
The matchup pits current champion Charlotte against Sasha Banks against Becky Lynch with the winner being declared the new WWE women's champion.
"To Charlotte, Becky and Sasha, tonight is your night – you all earned this, you fought hard fueled by passion and you did this together – this is bigger than one person, it represents so much more," Stratus wrote.
"You have all earned the right to be called a women's wrestler, be rolemodels, and be viewed for what you are – professional athletes.
