Italee Lucas scored 15 points to help No. 14 North Carolina beat Coastal Carolina 93-37 on Friday night.

Chay Shegog added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Tar Heels (3-0), who scored the game's first 16 points on their way to a 45-10 halftime lead.

Jessica Breland had 13 points, 13 rebounds and six of North Carolina's school record-tying 14 blocked shots.

North Carolina raced out to a 34-2 lead before the Chanticleers made their first field goal. Coastal Carolina missed its first 22 shots, a drought Kira Carter snapped with a driving scoop shot with 4:58 remaining in the first half.

Olivia Irick scored nine points to lead the Chanticleers (2-1), who dropped to 0-14 all-time against North Carolina.

Coastal Carolina shot 18.2 percent from the field, finishing with six assists and 27 turnovers.

No starter played more than 18 minutes for North Carolina, which shot 44.6 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Chanticleers 68-40.

The Tar Heels sputtered offensively in the opening half, shooting 37.2 percent from the field and missing all 10 of their 3-point attempts. But their defense enabled them to build a 21-0 advantage in points off turnovers before halftime.

Coastal Carolina made just 3 of 30 field-goal attempts in the first half, including 0-for-14 on shots outside the lane. The Chanticleers had 17 turnovers and no assists at the break.

Lucas and Shegog got the Tar Heels off to a fast start, combining to score the game's first 14 points in the opening five minutes. Shegog finished with 12 points in the first half, making all five of her field-goal attempts and both of her free throws.

The Tar Heels opened the second half with a 17-4 spurt, leading by as many as 60 points.
