Brett Frank has been named Mississippi's acting women's basketball coach for the upcoming season.

The former assistant was promoted on Wednesday four days following the dismissal of head coach Adrian Wiggins and two other assistants. The athletic department revealed on Saturday it was working with the NCAA regarding ''impermissible recruiting contacts and academic misconduct.''

Frank has been an assistant coach at the college level for 17 seasons and been a part of five NCAA Tournament appearances.

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork said in a statement Wednesday that Frank ''is the leader and stabilizing presence our team and program needs during this difficult time.''
