What song will CM Punk walk out to at UFC 203?
One of the many questions that people want answered about Saturday is: What song will CM Punk walk out to at UFC 203?
Every UFC event that takes place has a story involved with it that holds a lot of weight with mainstream audiences. Without a doubt, the story this Saturday at UFC 203 is the debut of CM Punk. After nearly two years of waiting, Punk will step into the octagon for the first time in his career as he takes on Mickey Gall.
Now when it comes to the debut of Punk, people obviously have a lot of questions regarding the former WWE Champion. Will he get his tail handed to him? Will he shock us all and win? How is his conditioning? Does he have good punching power? How’s his ground game?
Really, though, one inquiry that is weighing on the minds of a lot of people may seem unimportant to some, but to many, it’s really something they’re mulling over hardcore: What song will he walk out to when he makes his UFC debut on Saturday evening?
Of course, most really want him to walk out to the song he began using when he broke through the WWE glass ceiling in 2011, “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour. When Punk became a big star by bucking the system in the company, not only did he see success for himself, but he reminded people that Living Colour were once a thing.
Punk was recently asked on The MMA Hour by Ariel Helwani the song that he will be coming out to, and to the surprise of some, “Cult of Personality” was not taken off the table.
“I thought I knew and now today, listening, when I was working out earlier, I heard a couple on my iPod in rotation and I was like ‘oooh.’ I don’t know. There’s a top three. They asked me when I checked in what my song was going to be and I couldn’t give them an answer yet. … I came out to a lot of awesome songs in my pro wrestling career, so it could be any one of them. No, (Cult of Personality) is still on the table.”
When it comes down to it, that would be the song that would make most folks jump right out of their seats. However, he did mention that he came out to a lot of awesome songs in his pro wrestling career. So that may beg the question to some who are not familiar with his wrestling career: What else could he be talking about?
Obviously, he can’t come out to “This Fire Burns,” the theme that he used in WWE before the switch to “Cult of Personality.” That song is property of WWE and, well, Mr. Phil Brooks doesn’t need another lawsuit with Vince McMahon, now does he?
So that leaves one other option on the table for Punk to walk out to if he does want to revisit his wrestling career. As he was making a name for himself on the pro wrestling scene and working for independent promotion Ring of Honor, he came to the ring with the tune of “Miseria Cantare” by AFI playing in the background.
Again, if he is considering using an option from his pro wrestling career for a walkout song, then this is one that hardcore fans of the business would definitely associate with him.
We probably won’t know until Saturday evening when Punk finally does take that walk to the octagon, and it ultimately isn’t the most important aspect of all this. Heck, maybe he’s just trolling again and he won’t use a former pro wrestling theme as he continues to distance himself from the business. But the fact of the matter is that Punk’s debut is being put under one of the biggest microscopes in combat sports history, so to a lot of people, every little tidbit matters.
