Velasquez defends title, defeats JDS
For the third time in two years, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos shared the Octagon with the UFC heavyweight title on the line. Much like he did in their second encounter, Velasquez controlled the contest with his full repertoire of skills and unrelenting aggressiveness, eventually earning a fifth-round stoppage win to retain the championship belt.
These two heavyweight behemoths got in each other’s faces during the introductions, and started with a bang, but as the fight wore on, dos Santos was unable to keep up with the champion’s tireless pace and ability to keep him guessing.
Velasquez came close to finishing the fight in the third, but somehow, the challenger managed to survive, and even managed to land some hard shots late in the fourth, but it was to no avail.
In the end, the champion defended his title, successfully turning back dos Santos’ challenge once again to take the rubber match in their trilogy.
