UFC Sacramento Results: Josh Emmett Remains Undefeated

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:37 a.m. ET

Josh Emmett picked up a huge win over Scott Holtzman via unanimous decision at UFC Sacramento in a match where both fighters hold very impressive records.

It is no easy task winning your first 11 fights, let alone winning 11 in a row. But Josh Emmett was successful in extending his MMA record to a perfect 11-0 in front of his hometown of Sacramento. Emmett won by unanimous decision over Scott Holtzman during the UFC Sacramento prelims, with all three of the judges scoring the bout 29-28.

Emmett, who is proving to be one of the more competitive lightweights in the sport, was the better overall fighter against Holtzman. Emmett landed 56-percent of his total strikes while Holtzman landed 44 percent of his. Emmett also won the takedown battle 8-3.

Emmett’s wrestling proved to be key in his second win in the UFC. His first came back in May over Jon Tuck. Emmett had also fought in the WFC and KOTC prior to his UFC debut.

With an 11-0 record and a very crowded lightweight division, Emmett has a lot of competition ahead of him, giving the UFC some solid options for future matchups that could entice fans to tune in and watch this rising star.

In his Octagon interview with Brian Stann following his win, Emmett said he might have broken a bone. He was taken to a local hospital soon after his match.

Though Holtzman has a jiu-jitsu and boxing background, he struggled on the ground, where Emmett’s wrestling came into play and made a difference in the fight.

Like Emmett, Holtzman is also a competitive fighter and his 9-2 record is a quick indication of that. But after losing two of his last three fights, Holtzman needs to come back strong if he wants to be one of the notable lightweight fighters in the UFC.
