UFC Sacramento: Colby Covington Takes On Bryan Barberena
UFC Sacramento will feature the “Prospect Killer” Bryan Barberena taking on talented wrestler Colby Covington.
The UFC officially announced the addition on their website.
Out of the four fights announced for Sacramento’s FOX card, three are in the welterweight division including this one. Bryan Barberena and Colby Covington have a common foe in Warlley Alves, with Alves submitting Covington, and losing in stunning fashion to Barberena.
Bryan Barberena has gained the reputation as a prospect killer after taking out both Alves and Sage Northcutt, ending their undefeated runs. Training alongside talent like Benson Henderson, Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger, and Efrain Escudero under John Crouch has given the welterweight a great base to work with.
Barberena has used a pressure-first style in all four of his Octagon appearances, only losing once in a “Fight of the Night” against Chad Laprise. “Bam Bam” is on a two-fight win streak, submitting Sage Northcutt, and out-brawling Warlley Alves most recently.
Colby Covington was a roommate of Jon Jones in community college, then went on to become a two-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler at Oregon State. The wrestling chops have translated to great success in MMA, accumulating a 10-1 record with six submissions and one TKO.
Covington is also on a two-fight win streak, stopping newcomers Jonathan Meunier and Max Griffin in his last two appearances. The two victories have pushed his Octagon record to 5-1.
UFC on FOX 22 will take place on December 17 in the Golden 1 Center of Sacramento, California. The main event is an excellent strawweight battle between Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson. Also on the card, Sage Northcutt and Mickey Gall settle their score, and Mike Perry looks to continue his run against Alan Jouban.
