British WEC-UFC veteran Brad Pickett is both sad and excited about sharing the cage with Urijah Faber during his retirement fight.

No one expected the bombshell that Urijah Faber dropped on the fight community on Monday. The long-time UFC fan favourite announced that his fight with Brad Pickett on Dec. 17 will be his last.

Faber appeared on Mondays edition of The MMA Hour and during his chat with Ariel Helwani he dropped the news from way out of left field. His hometown of Sacramento, California will be where he will finish off his historic career.

As fast as the news of Faber’s retirement reached his opponent, Brad Pickett, he reached out to MMAFighting to say how much of an honour it is to share the cage with ‘The California Kid’ during his last fight.

When I was offered this fight I was pumped. It has relit a fire in me that I was worried was slowly burning out. Faber is a true pioneer of the sport. He is an excellent role model and a ridiculously talented athlete and I’m humbled that I get to share the Octagon with him in his hometown for his last fight.

When I saw your announcement this evening, I texted him straight away letting him know how honored I was to be his last opponent.

Faber (33-10) is one of the worlds most beloved fighters known for his exciting and devastating fights as well as for his laid back attitude outside of the cage. A former WEC champion who has fought and beaten some of the worlds greatest athletes there is no more fitting way to call an end to his Hall of Fame worthy career than in his own backyard.

Also known for putting on spectacular and exciting fights regardless of if he walks away with the win or not, Pickett has promised to make this fight one “that no one will forget”.
