UFC Rankings - November 8th, 2013
UFC middleweight and US Army Green Beret Tim Kennedy vaulted into the No. 10 position in the 185-pound ranks on the strength of his first-round knockout win over Rafael “Sapo” Natal. The victory has the former Strikeforce title challenger poised to face some much bigger names in 2014.
The other major shake-up as a result of Wednesday’s UFC Fight for the Troops event came in the women’s bantamweight division, where co-main event winner Alexis Davis climbed three spots to land at No. 3, behind Cat Zingano and Miesha Tate in the UFC’s newest weight class.
Despite wearing a crimson facemask for the final half of her fight thanks to a nasty cut above her left eye, Davis soundly defeated former title challenger Liz Carmouche in the penultimate fight of the evening. As a result of the loss, Carmouche slipped three spots in the rankings, falling to seventh position. UFC 166 winner Jessica Eye climbed one spot to No. 6, though still one place behind the women she beat in Houston, Sarah Kaufman, while unbeaten Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann dropped a position to No. 4.
The only other changes to the rankings came in the welterweight division, where Nick Diaz’ continued, ongoing retirement resulted in the former title challenger falling three spots to No. 9 in the rankings, while his teammate and close friend, Jake Shields, moved up two spots on the strength of his latest victory. Ironically, like Eye, he too still trails the man he beat last month in Brazil, Demian Maia, who sits at No. 5.
