UFC 208 Results: Glover Teixeira Wrestles His Way to a Win
A grizzled veteran vs. hot prospect matchup took place on the UFC 208 main card when Glover Teixeira fought Jared Cannonier.
Glover Teixeira is coming off a devastating 14-second knockout loss to Anthony Johnson at UFC 202 last August. Teixeira was likely one win away from securing a title shot against Daniel Cormier, but the knockout loss likely set him back a couple fights.
Losing this fight to Jared Cannonier is not an option for the 37-year-old Brazillian if he wants to stay in that title picture at all. High risk with little reward for Teixeira. With the clear grappling advantage, it’s likely he will turn to that tonight.
Jared Cannonier is one of the light heavyweight division’s hottest prospects. A slugfest victory over Ion Cutelaba put him on the map at light heavyweight and landed him this opportunity against the number three guy in the UFC. A win will skyrocket him upwards in the rankings, possibly into the top 5 with how weak the division is right now. A loss isn’t a big deal for Cannonier, he still has time to grow but
A win will skyrocket him upwards in the rankings, possibly into the top five with how weak the division is right now. A loss isn’t a big deal for Cannonier, he still has time to grow but obviously that’s not what he’s shooting for, a win will change his life and get him some high profile fights.

The second had Cannonier landing a good shot but getting easily taken down by Teixeira. Jared did his best to try to get up for a while, actually getting full guard, but Glover was able to thoroughly dominate on the ground. The main strategy for Cannonier was to get to that cage and stand up. However, the referee appeared to get bored with Teixeira’s domination and stood them up, much to Joe Rogan’s dismay. The fight remained on the feet with little action, and the round ended shortly after.
You could hear the corners yelling through the silence of the crowd at the beginning of the third and Glover took the fight back to the ground instantly.
