UFC 206 Results: Cerrone Crushes Brown With Head Kick

After two rounds of back and forth action, Donald Cerrone crushes Matt Brown with a vicious head kick to launch him into welterweight title contention at UFC 206.

Matt Brown needs a victory. Losing isn’t even an option for Brown anymore. After winning 7 fights and being one win away from a title shot, Brown has gone 1-4 in his last. After being beaten emphatically by Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201, Matt Brown needs to stun the scorching hot Donald Cerrone to stay in the welterweight top-15.

Fan favorite Donald Cerrone has been a lethal ever since moving up to the welterweight division. Three straight finishes over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, and Rick Story have launched him into the welterweight top 5.  This will be Cerrone’s fourth fight of the year and another if he is able to finish Matt Brow, will put him at 13 finishes in the UFC, tied for second all time.

They met in the center of the octagon right out of the gates and traded in the pocket. Cowboy landed a nice body shot and a head kick that had Brown reeling early. Once Brown seemed to recover he began to push forward while Donald kept him on the end of some kicks.

    A large head kick tagged Brown right on the button and established the momentum for Cowboy. A slip to the ground went in Brown’s favor as he locked in a triangle and it looked for a second that Brown could pull off a stunning submission, but Cowboy powered out and got back up to his feet. Brown’s eye welled at the end of the round as he cracked Cerrone to end the round.

    Round number two started with Brown looking to land another large shot. Cerrone looked for a series of takedowns that were all stuffed before finding an opening head kick. Brown then landed a huge shot that seemed to be the first time that Cerrone was seriously stunned from a punch in a long time. Cerrone got him right back with head kick moments after. Brown staggered him into some more punches while Donald kept him at bay with some jabs. Serious bombs were thrown by both sides with Brown seeming to be getting the better of most of the exchanges.

    The third round began with an embrace from both sides and Cowboy pumping up the crowd. Cowboy stunned Brown almost instantly and then GOOD NIGHT MATT BROWN! Donald Cerrone landed a massive head kick that sent Matt Brown crashing to the canvas. Cowboy has four straight at welterweight and puts himself into the welterweight title picture.
