UFC 206: Dustin Ortiz Replaces John Moraga Against Zach Makovsky
UFC 206 has undergone more changes, but this one has lead to a very interesting matchup between flyweight contenders.
MMA Sun first reported the injury to John Moraga, while the replacement of Dustin Ortiz can be found on the UFC 206 official card.
All three flyweights involved have struggled recently, with each one of them currently riding a two-fight losing streak. John Moraga is the only one of the three who was defeated by a non-top 10 opponent in Matheus Nicolau however.
According to Cage Pages, Zach Makovsky is the ninth ranked flyweight contender, John Moraga is tenth, and the replacement Dustin Ortiz falls out of the top 10.
Dustin Ortiz is a very solid wrestling-based fighter with notable wins over Justin Scoggins and Ray Borg. Ortiz is 4-4 in the Octagon and his current streak of losses came against top Brazilians Jussier Formiga and Wilson Reis.
Another change on the card is in the women’s strawweight division. Valerie Letourneau was set to fight undefeated newcomer Poliana Botelho, but Botelho was removed from the fight and replaced with another undefeated Brazilian prospect in Viviane “Sucuri” Pereira.
Viviane Pereira is 12-0 in her career, finishing half of those victories. She owns four knockouts and two submissions. It is worth noting that the Brazilian is only five-feet tall and will be at a seven-inch height disadvantage in this contest against the Canadian Letourneau.
UFC 206 takes place on December 10 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While Georges St. Pierre could not be secured for the main event, fans will be treated to a light heavyweight rematch between champion Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson. Interesting matchups between Doo Ho Choi and Cub Swanson, along with Nikita Krylov and Misha Cirkunov also populate the card.
