UFC 205: Lyman Good Pulled from Card by USADA

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

UFC 205 has experienced its first and hopefully last tragedy, as Lyman Good has been pulled from his fight with Belal Muhammad due to a potential anti-doping violation.

The UFC announced the news on their website.

Lyman Good was scheduled to make his Octagon return after over a year of absence from the sport. Now due to a potentially failed drug test dating back to October 14, that layoff may last much longer.

Good is a former Bellator champion who left the organization for The Ultimate Fighter after accumulating an 8-3 record with the promotion. His run included wins over UFC veterans Jim Wallhead and Hector Urbina.

Unfortunately, Good was defeated in the fight to earn a spot in the TUF tournament, so he went to  east coast promotion CFFC. The New York native became the organization’s welterweight champion before heading to the Octagon after racking up a 3-0 record, all via stoppage, and one no contest.

Lyman Good defeated Andrew Craig on short notice in his UFC debut in July 2015. Good pulled out of a scheduled fight with Omari Akhmedov in December, and has not fought since.

This was a huge opportunity for the former Bellator champion to fight not only on the biggest card ever, but in his backyard of New York City for the first time in his professional career.

The promotion is seeking out a replacement opponent to take on Belal Muhammad on short notice, who made his Octagon debut on short notice. It was a “Fight of the Night” effort by “Remember the Name” that Alan Jouban came out of as the victor. Muhammad then took on Augusto Montano last month and earned the biggest win of his MMA career via second round TKO.

UFC 205 is the greatest card in history and is headlined by a superfight between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. Tyron Woodley’s welterweight belt will be on the line against Stephen Thompson, and Joanna Jedrzejczyk also looks to defend against Karolina Kowalkiewicz. It all goes down on November 12 from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
