'UFC 190: Embedded': Rousey's mom on why Ronda's plan was 'stupid'

Published Jul. 30, 2015 4:59 p.m. ET

In the latest episode of "UFC 190: Embedded", Ronda Rousey talks about not being able to please everyone with her fights, and her mother -- former Judo world champion Ann Maria DeMars -- explains why the champ's original plan to "drag out" the main event fight against challenger Bethe Correia was "stupid."

"I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on my fights. It seems like people love them," Rousey began.

"And, some people, it's like you give a mouse a cookie, you know? I gave them a bunch of really decisive finishes, and they're like, 'Oh, we want something different.' It's just impossible to make everybody happy, so I should just worry about making myself and my family happy."

On that note, Doctor DeMars was not happy with Rousey's talk of intentionally allowing the fight with Correa to go longer than it may need to. And, the Judoka was not shy about telling her daughter as much.

"I said, 'Well, that's a really stupid idea because even if someone has a one-in-a-million chance per second of beating you, if you let it go 60 seconds when you could have won it in 10, that's six times the chance and that's just stupid,'" she said.

"I said, 'Look, if you want to get even, embarrass somebody, do whatever, do a backbend on her arm and make it go to a 45-degree angle.' That's one way to do it without giving me a heart attack."

To that end, Rousey insists that she is not understimating the undefeated Correia. In fact, she believes that it's the challenger who is pinning her hopes on all the wrong things.

"I give Bethe so much respect as an athlete whereas she just hopes that somehow I'm going to be mentally weakened or something," she said, in conclusion.

"Why are you hoping for me to fu-- up? You should be hoping for yourself to be good, and assume that I'm going to be fantastic."
