TUF alum Davey Grant out of UFC Fight Night London bout with injury
Davey Grant made weight and then all of a sudden he was out of his fight.
In a bizarre turn of events Friday, Grant was found to have a torn meniscus and was forced to pull out of his Saturday bout with Roland Delorme at UFC Fight Night London (12 p.m. ET, UFC Fight Pass) following the weigh-ins, according to The Telegraph.
Grant felt pain three days ago and told the UFC after weighing in at 135 pounds. An MRI scan showed the Ultimate Fighter 18 veteran had torn his meniscus. The UFC promptly cancelled the fight.
"I'm devastated," Grant said. "The doctor said there was no way I could fight. I had a bit of pain in the knee but was just telling myself it would be OK and changed my game plan. It would have been a disaster if I'd done that in reality. It's a real nightmare and I really can't believe this."
Grant (8-2) and Delorme (9-2) will both get paid their fight purses. Grant said the injury came while he was simply exercising.
The Telegraph reported that Grant, from nearby Sunderland, England, had a huge amount of fans coming to London to root him on. Grant lost to Chris Holdsworth in the TUF 18 Finale back in December.
