Tom Breese announces move up to middleweight division
Tom Breese has revealed his intentions of moving up to middleweight after spending his entire career as a member of the UFC’s welterweight division
It looks like Tom Breese will become the middleweight division’s newest fighter.
On Wednesday, the Englishman took to his Facebook to reveal his plans of moving up to 185-pounds after spending his entire six-year career as a member of the welterweight division.
“No more draining myself down to 170,” wrote Breese. “My future at 185. I’m ready to rumble with these big boys.”
This is just the latest career change Breese, 24, has made. He previously revealed he was parting ways with longtime team at Tristar in Montreal earlier this year.
“I’d train and then once I’d stopped training I felt, burnt out and like I had no balance in my life,” Breese told FloCombat. “I wasn’t happy. I just feel now that the training at home [in Birmingham] is amazing, Tristar is also amazing but if you invest in your training you can be great anywhere.”
Breese (10-1) was last seen dropping a unanimous decision to Sean Strickland at UFC 199 in June. This not only gave him his first professional defeat but also marked just the second fight in his career to reach the judges scorecard. ‘The Octopus’ previously earned a close split decision win over Keita Nakamura at UFC Fight Night 84 in February.
Prior to these two performances, Breese looked like a world beater as he rattled off eight straight stoppage wins, most notably a first round destruction of Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night 76. For this victory, Breese earned his first, and only, Performance of the Night bonus.
