Thiago Silva and Ovince St. Preux set to tangle at Jan. UFC Fight Night
Thiago Silva and Ovince St. Preux will meet as part of the UFC Fight Night event to be held in the Atlanta area on Jan. 15, 2014.
The UFC announced the light-heavyweight matchup on Wednesday night.
The bout is the fourth to join the lineup following the event’s recent announcement. Middleweights Luke Rockhold and Costa Philippou will headline the show, while a featherweight clash between Cole Miller and Sam Sicilia and a bantamweight battle between T.J. Dillashaw and Mike Easton are also on tap.
Silva, who just turned 31 earlier this month, is coming off two straight wins, including a decision over Matt Hamill and a knockout of Rafael Cavalcante. He is 16-3 with 2 no contests.
The match represents a major opportunity for St. Preux, who has won both of his UFC starts, but has seen both of them take place against lesser-known opposition. He earned a technical decision over Gian Villante in his UFC debut in April, and followed it up in August with a first-round knockout of Cody Donovan.
Silva is his highest-profile opponent to date, a former top 10er who headlined an event as recently as 2012. St. Preux is 14-5 overall and has knocked out two of his last three opponents.
The show takes place at the Arena at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia.
