Sources say Cain Velasquez healthy, wants to fight Oct. 3
Despite absorbing dozens of big shots and being wobbled before losing by submission to Fabricio Werdum last month, anonymous sources told UFC Tonight that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez amazingly came out of the bout relatively unscathed. In fact, the former two-time champ reportedly wants to fight again, soon.
According to those same sources, Velasquez wants to fight on the same Oct. 3 card that his American Kickboxing Academy teammate and wrestling coach Daniel Cormier is set to fight on. That UFC 192 card in Houston will take place relatively close to Cormier's home state of Louisiana, and would surely make regional fight fans happy who missed out on seeing DC live when he pulled out of a New Orleans bout with Ryan Bader to fill in for Jon Jones and fight Anthony Johnson for the vacated 205-pound title.
Velasquez had been out of action for about a year and a half with injuries before his fight against Werdum in Mexico City at UFC 188. Perhaps the popular former champ is eager to not have another long lay-off.
Before losing to Werdum, Velasquez had won four straight fights, and 13 out of his last 14.
Despite Velasquez's camp insisting that he's fit to begin training and fighting again, soon, there is no word yet from the heavyweight as to who he would like to fight next. We will certainly keep you updated on developments with this story as they occur.
