Russian heavyweight gets UFC shot after beating Cro Cop, debuts vs Rosholt
Beating Cro Cop in 2013 does still mean something to somebody.
Oleksiy Oliynyk submitted the PRIDE legend and former UFC heavyweight in November and now he’s getting a shot at the UFC himself. The Russian meets Jared Rosholt in a heavyweight bout on the prelims of UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Thomson on Jan. 25 in Chicago, the UFC announced Saturday.

Oliynyk (48-9), who is on a nine-fight winning streak, took out Mirko Cro Cop at Legend – Part 2: Invasion in Moscow via first-round neck crank on Nov. 8. The 36-year-old is a veteran of the sport with a 48-9-1 record and wins over Jeff Monson, Tony Lopez and Thiago Santos.
Rosholt (9-1) will be coming in with much less experience, but a
greater upside. The 27-year-old debuted in the UFC by beating Walt
Harris by decision at the TUF Finale last weekend. He’s now
won five straight.
