Ronda Rousey lands starring role in 'Mile 22' alongside Iko Uwais

UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey had an agreement with president Dana White that after her fight with Cat Zingano at UFC 184, she would take some time off to go film a movie.

It appears her next film project is now set after Rousey dispatched Zingano in just 14 seconds at UFC 184 on Saturday night.

Rousey has signed on to star in the new film "Mile 22," with Peter Berg ("Friday Night Lights," "The Rundown") on board to produce the picture.

Berg teased the possibility of the project recently with a photo he posted on his Instagram page with Rousey and her new co-star.

According to Variety, Rousey will star alongside Iko Uwais, best known for his work in the film "The Raid" as well as a part in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens."

The film is set to team Rousey with Uwais as a CIA operative and an Indonesian police officer investigating a case of political corruption.

"I am a huge fan of what Gareth (Evans) and Iko did on both 'Raid' films, and I'm very excited at the possibility of working with Ronda and Iko to create a film in the spirit of this new wave of combat cinema emerging from Indonesia," Berg said on Monday. "Ronda and Iko will be a very unique and powerful team."

It appears 2015 will be a major year for Rousey's film career with her starring vehicle alongside Uwais in "Mile 22" as well as two new movies coming out in the next few months.

Rousey stars alongside Vin Diesel in "Furious 7" -- the seventh installment of "The Fast and the Furious" film franchise -- which comes out in April. She will then appear in the "Entourage" movie from HBO, which will be released in June.

Rousey is also attached to star in the adaptation of the book "The Athena Project," which is in development at Warner Bros.

Filming for the new movie will begin in mid-May.
