Ronda Rousey: I'm going to beat up Correia and Tate, then go film a movie
UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey never stops moving.
Whether she's preparing for an upcoming title defense in Brazil -- like this weekend's UFC 190 card where Rousey faces undefeated contender Bethe Correia -- or landing a starring movie role opposite Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming film "Mile 22."
Rousey was already in Brazil this past weekend when her former opponent Miesha Tate defeated Jessica Eye to earn the next title shot, with that fight likely scheduled for later this year. Rousey didn't actually get to watch the fight, but she was rather complimentary of Tate on Monday when speaking to FOX Sports about her long-time rival.
"I didn't see it. Dana (White) was texting me about it because I was about to go train at the time, but I'm not surprised," Rousey said. "She's a great competitor and a great athlete. I've always said amazing things about her as a fighter."
It's no secret that Rousey burst on the scene as a superstar when she downed Tate to win the Strikeforce title in 2012 and then reached an even bigger status after beating her a second time in the UFC in 2013.
Two fights, two wins and two submissions might make a third fight a hard sell to some competitors, but not Rousey.
"There's fan interest, so there's my interest," Rousey said. "I'm interested in defending my title as many times as I need to before I feel like I'm done. If she's the best competitor and she's who the fans want to see, then yeah, I'm extremely interested in doing it."
Rousey needs the other fighters in the women's bantamweight division to continue clawing their way into title bouts with her because that's the only way she's going to defend her belt while building the mystique as the most dominant fighter on the planet.
Then again, even Rousey can't deny that if she beats Tate for a third time, there probably should never be a fourth.
"I need these other girls. It's not like I could do this by myself. I need a dancing partner," Rousey said. "The analogy I use a lot is these girls are like plants -- sometimes you can grow a crop and harvest it year after year like Miesha and sometimes you harvest it once and it will never grow back, like I don't think Bethe will ever come back after this.
"I think this might be the final season I can harvest the Tate crop."
From the sound of things, Rousey is already contemplating her next fight assuming everything goes as well as planned against Correia this weekend in Rio de Janeiro.
Rousey has a notoriously hard time not staying busy and that won't change after her next fight is finished on Saturday night. She will stay in Brazil following the fight with Correia to treat her family to a vacation and then it's onto the next one -- and then the next one after that.
"Here's pretty much the plan," Rousey said. "I'm going to beat up Bethe, then I'm going to take a couple of weeks to rest, and then I'm going to go beat up Miesha, and then I'm going to go to like Thailand or wherever we decide to film ("Mile 22") and prep for like a month, and then start filming for like eight to 10 weeks, and then go beat up the next chick.
"That's pretty much my plan."
