Ray Borg is out of UFC 203 bout against Ian McCall

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Ray Borg was forced out of his fight against Ian McCall at UFC 203 due to an injury, leaving McCall without an opponent once again.

As of late, things don’t seem to be going in Ian McCall’s favor. The UFC flyweight was scheduled to face Ray Borg at UFC 203 on Saturday, just two days away. However, early Thursday it was revealed that Borg has been forced out of the bout because of an illness. MMA journalist Jim Edwards broke the news on Twitter.

This has happened numerous times before, especially recently. Many fights have been scrapped just days before the event because of certain issues, such as Jon Jones being removed from UFC 200 because USADA flagged him for a potential anti-doping violation.

Still, McCall has already been here before. In fact, he was in the same predicament a little over a month ago. Scheduled to face Justin Scoggins at UFC 201, Scoggins informed the UFC that he wasn’t going to be able to make weight, so the fight was scrapped. Luckily for McCall, he was compensated by the UFC by being paid for his show and win money and he was also immediately rebooked to face Ray Borg. Sadly, it seems luck is once again not on his side.

Before McCall made the decision to get another fight booked, he thought about retiring from the sport because of lingering injuries. Now that he’s decided to fight again, it seems as if he may have to wait even longer to get back into the cage.

According to FOX Sports, UFC 203 will move on with 11 fights on the card, so McCall will be booked for another fight in the future.

UFC 203 goes down on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. It will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem.
