Nate Diaz posts worrisome tweet

Published Sep. 23, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Early Wednesday afternoon, Nate Diaz tweeted out a few words that seemed to put his Nov. 30 matchup with Gray Maynard in jeopardy.

The tweet comes just two weeks after Diaz agreed to the bout, which comes on the heels of a two-fight losing streak. Strange timing for a cancelation, but FOX Sports did confirm that his high school, Tokay in Lodi, California, has their 10-year reunion set for the same night as his bout.

So could he really be bowing out of the match for some cold hors d’oueuvres, cheap beer, and the chance to torment some former bullies? Unlikely. For one thing, we’re guessing Diaz didn’t have anyone antagonizing him around the hallways.

For another, there’s this: his manager Mike Kogan told FOX Sports he was fairly certain Diaz would be in Las Vegas on the night in question.

“He was probably screwing around,” Kogan said, adding that Diaz hadn’t mentioned anything to him about the potential conflict.

Let’s hope it was a joke. If the two do meet, it will be for the third time. Diaz defeated Maynard during tournament competition on The Ultimate Fighter, winning by guillotine while less than three years later, Maynard squeezed out a split-decision.
