Mir, Velasquez to fight at UFC 146
A former UFC heavyweight champion will be the next No. 1 contender for the belt, and we'll find out who that is at UFC 146.
“Verbal agreements are in for a No. 1 contender match between former UFC world heavyweight champions Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez at UFC 146, May 26 in Las Vegas,” UFC president Dana White said.
The fight will be part of a card that pits current UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos against Alistair Overeem in the UFC 146 main event. The winner of that fight will know right away who he'll be facing, either Velasquez or Mir.
Velasquez lost the heavyweight title to dos Santos on Nov. 12, 2011 at UFC on FOX 1 in Anaheim.
A third heavyweight fight between Roy "Big Country" Nelson and Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva" will also be on the UFC 146 card.
UFC 146 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 26. Tickets for the event go on sale March 30.
