Michael McDonald returns to face Masanori Kanehara at UFC 195
Following a two year layoff, former bantamweight title challenger Michael McDonald will get back in action at UFC 195 on Jan. 2 as he faces Masanori Kanehara in Las Vegas.
UFC officials confirmed the fight to FOX Sports on Monday.
McDonald has been out of action since December 2013 following a loss to Urijah Faber before dealing with some serious hand injuries that have caused him problems for several years.
McDonald, who is still ranked No. 8 in the world at bantamweight, also took some much needed time off after fighting non-stop since the time he was 16 years old when he first turned pro in MMA.
As for Kanehara, he will look to improve upon his current 1-1 record in the UFC after debuting with the promotion in 2014.
Kanehara defeated former "Ultimate Fighter" competitor Alex Caceres in his first fight out of the gate before dropping a split decision to Rani Yahya back in July.
McDonald vs. Kanehara is the latest addition to the UFC 195 card headlined by welterweight champion Robbie Lawler facing Carlos Condit in the main event.
