Max Holloway says a fight with Jose Aldo for interim belt 'ideal'

Since losing a decision to Conor McGregor back in 2013, Max Holloway has rattled off eight straight wins. The top featherweight contender is currently healing an injured hand but told members of the media this past weekend that he's already making plans for 2016.

"Just keep winning," he said.

"One step at a time and just take it how I took 2014 and 2015 ... I'm not trying to get ahead of myself. This is MMA. With those little gloves, things can change fast. I just want to take it one step at a time and see where it goes."

Holloway fought and won in December but injured his thumb and has had to take it relatively easy since then. After such a busy schedule the past couple of years, the 24-year-old husband and father says he's enjoyed time-off during the holidays with his family.

"I had back-to-back years of four fights. I was doing PT on some existing injuries ... we found out some little things were out of place. I got to relax, spend a little more time with my family, spend time with my wife, take my son to the movies, eat popcorn, junk food, all that fun stuff," he said.

"It's great, but at the end of the day, I want to fight three times this year."

Holloway says that the cast on his thumb will be coming off in days and that he expects about a month of physical therapy afterward. Following the rehab, he wants to get back in camp for a fight in either late May or early June.

"If you don't fight in too long, people start to forget who you are," he chuckled.

Holloway believes his path will lead to a championship, but he doesn't much care who he fights next. Well, as long as they are higher-ranked than he is.

"There's four guys in front of me, and all four can get it," he went on.

Holloway continued, saying he doesn't begrudge McGregor for having the dangerous opportunity to move up in weight while holding on to the 145-pound title. The Hawaiian also said he understands why former champion Jose Aldo wants to fight for a title again, immediately.

"He's been the champ for so long, I don't see why not," Holloway reasoned.

Holloway isn't calling any one fighter out, but he did have a suggestion."Why not do an interim between Aldo and Holloway," he asked.

"That would be freaking ideal."
