Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva headlines UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati
The UFC's return to Cincinnati now has a main event pitting hometown favorite Matt Brown against Brazilian striker Erick Silva in a five round headline fight taking place May 10 at the U.S. Bank Arena.
UFC officials confirmed the fight with FOX Sports on Monday.
Matt Brown (18-11) returns to action following a back injury that sidelined him at the close of 2013 while riding a six-fight win streak in the welterweight division. The Ohio native expressed interest in possibly headlining the card in Cincinnati since he hails from the Buckeye state and now he'll get his wish as he continues his climb up the rankings.
Long term, Brown wants to fight for the UFC welterweight title so he's not going to put extra pressure on himself headlining a hometown card.
"At this point in my career I'm not very far away from a title fight," Brown told FOX Sports. "That's definitely what I'm looking to accomplish. I try to think of this as just another fight."
Brown's challenger will be Brazilian knockout artist Erick Silva (16-4), who is fresh off a first round drubbing of UFC newcomer Takenori Sato in February. Silva has bounced back and forth between wins and losses since coming to the UFC and he'll look to earn his first ever two fight win streak facing a top ten opponent in Brown.
The upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Cincinnati on May 10 will air live on FOX Sports 1 with the final main card still to be determined.
