Matt Brown is not impressed by Tarec Saffiedine's performance

All signs are pointing towards a welterweight showdown in January between No. 5 ranked fighter Matt Brown and former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine.

An initial report about the potential fight was released this week by Kimura.se and now it seems even more like after Brown was asked about the bout on Thursday during a Q&A session in Australia.

While the Ohio native didn't emphatically state that the fight was a done deal, it appears at this point it's just a formality because he's never turned down a fight and he's not going to start now.

"They tell me not to say anything. We haven't signed anything, but if you read Twitter than apparently yeah we're fighting," Brown stated.  "I've never not signed a contract they've sent me so I'm sure we'll be fighting."

Part of the reason the fight may not be official just yet is because the card the welterweights are rumored to compete on still hasn't been announced.  Currently the fight card is expected to take place on January 24 in Sweden, but the UFC has made no formal announcements about a show happening on that date or location.

Brown hasn't fought since July when he lost a unanimous decision to Robbie Lawler in the main event of the UFC Fight Night on FOX card from San Jose.  The loss snapped Brown's seven fight win streak.

Meanwhile, Saffiedine suffered his first loss in the UFC when he took on Rory MacDonald in October, losing by knockout in the third round.

Brown didn't sound overly excited by what he's seen out of Saffiedine in his last few fights, but he will gladly accept the challenge of dismantling him in front of millions of fans watching around the world.

"I'm going to knock him out. I think I can punch his face before he punches mine," Brown said when asked for a prediction on the fight.  "I haven't ever really watched him really other than when he fought (Rory) MacDonald and (Nate) Marquardt and I wasn't that impressed in either, even though he beat Marquardt, who is a very good fighter. I think Marquardt just wasn't ready for that fight honestly. MacDonald made it look easy."

Can Brown do the same thing or will Saffiedine power back from a loss and pick up a huge win in the UFC welterweight division?  For now it's just a wait and see game for the fight to become official.
