Matt Brown confirms he's no longer fighting Nate Diaz at UFC 189

The UFC 189 fight between Matt Brown and Nate Diaz has been cancelled after the former lightweight title contender opted not to sign a contract for the welterweight bout schedule on July 11 in Las Vegas.

Brown first released news of the fight cancellation on Twitter before confirming the news to FOX Sports on Tuesday.

"He didn't sign the contract," Brown told FOX Sports via text message.

Brown said he didn't know too many details about the fight cancellation, only that his manager informed him on Tuesday that Diaz was out and the fight was not going to happen at UFC 189.

Diaz had complained from the very moment the fight was announced that he never actually accepted the bout and felt strong armed by the UFC to take it despite never actually negotiating with him before saying the matchup was official.

Diaz stated in interviews that he had no problem facing Brown and it was a fight he believed fans would enjoy, but he wasn't happy with the way the bout came together.

It seems Diaz took a stand and decided against signing the contract.

As for Brown, he's not sure what comes next for him because the only word he received as of now was that the fight with Diaz was no longer happening. He did say he doesn't harbor any ill will against the Stockton, Calif. native and wishes him luck in his future fights.

Stay tuned for more details on Brown's next fight as well as Diaz's future with the UFC in the coming days.
