Mairbek Taisumov scores fourth-straight KO, at UFC Zagreb

Published Apr. 10, 2016 12:57 p.m. ET

Mairbek Taisumov looked ready for the lightweight division's elite, Sunday in Zagreb, and he knew it. After scoring his fourth-straight stoppage win, he delivered a walk-off interview and a clear message to UFC matchmaker and vice-president Joe Silva.

"Joe Silva, how many knockouts, and TKOs [do I have to do] to get to the top-10?" he asked, rhetorically.

The Chechen slugger soon found his range in the opening frame, working off of his jab. He stunned Hadzovic with a short right hook and then didn't let up.

Taisumov fired-off more rights after throwing out his jab, connecting more often than not. More short rights followed as he backed Hadzovic against the cage.

There, Taisumov measured Hadzovic with his jab once more, and then laid him out with a right uppercut that dropped and knocked him out on contact. The referee wisely stepped-in at that point to stop the bout.

The end came at 3:44 of the first round. Hadzovic's record drops to 10-3, as Taisumov's improves to 25-5.
