Kennedy vs. Natal video highlights
Tim Kennedy was the perfect man to headline Wednesday’s UFC Fight For The Troops event at Fort Campbell, and the US Army Green Beret made the most of the opportunity to deliver an impressive performance for his brothers and sisters in arms.
In the late stages of what had been a tactical, back-and-forth first round with Rafael Natal, Kennedy closed the distance on the Brazilian and caught him on the button with a beautiful left hook. Natal crashed to the canvas, and Kennedy pounced, forcing referee Herb Dean to step in and stop the fight.
The victorious military man swiftly climbed onto the top of the fence to tell the troops in attendance how much he appreciated them and revel in the excitement of his blistering finish.
Kennedy has now earned consecutive wins inside the Octagon, and three straight overall, but none more impressive than this. In halting Natal’s winning streak, the 34-year-old Team Jackson-Winkeljohn representative should find himself battling for a spot in the middleweight division’s Top 10 when the new media rankings come out on Monday.
After the previous three current and former soldiers on the fight card came away on the wrong side of the results, Kennedy’s first-round stoppage win over the surging Natal was an exciting way to cap what was a tremendous night of fights designed to give back to the men and women that serve this country and raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
