Josh Thomson vs. Tony Ferguson at UFC Fight Night in San Diego
The UFC will return to San Diego on July 15 and the first matchup for the card has been confirmed as former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson gets back in action against rising lightweight contender Tony Ferguson.
Thomson returns for the first time since July 2014 when he lost a very close bout to Bobby Green. Thomson originally expected to come back in March for a fight in Brazil against submission specialist Gilbert Burns but a thumb injury put him out of action for several weeks.
Now the veteran lightweight competitor is ready to fight again while hoping to erase the recent back-to-back losses he suffered in the UFC.
His opponent, Tony Ferguson, has quickly become a name to watch in the lightweight division.
A winner of five fights in a row, Ferguson has looked ultra impressive lately with victories over several notable names including Abel Trujillo and Gleison Tibau.
Ferguson will look to crack the top 10 of the division when he faces Thomson this summer in San Diego.
UFC Fight Night in San Diego goes down on July 15 and the promotion is expected to announce a headline bout for the card in the coming weeks.
