Josh Sampo misses weight, gives up 10-percent of his fight purse
UFC newcomer Josh Sampo was not able to make weight on Friday for his flyweight bout against Ryan Benoit when he hit the scales at 127.5 pounds.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission allows fighters up to one hour to cut the additional weight to make the limit — in this case Sampo would have to drop an additional pound and a half to make the 126-pound cut off.
After the initial weigh-in, Sampo opted not to cut the additional weight according to UFC officials and he will instead forgot 10-percent of his fight purse with 5-percent going to his opponent Ryan Benoit. The other 5-percent goes to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The fight will move ahead as scheduled with Sampo giving up his purse and Benoit agreeing to the bout despite his opponent missing weight.
Sampo vs. Benoit will kick off the fight card on Saturday night prior to the main card, which features both of the finals from this season of The Ultimate Fighter.
