Jose Aldo calls for fight with Anthony Pettis, Max Holloway responds

Max Holloway is none too pleased with the idea of interim featherweight champ Jose Aldo potentially squaring off against Anthony Pettis

Jose Aldo desperately wants revenge against reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

McGregor previously got the better of Aldo in their title fight at UFC 194 in December, knocking out the Brazilian just 13 seconds into the first round. Aldo rebounded with a unanimous decision victory over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, earning the promotion’s interim featherweight title and guaranteeing his rematch against McGregor.

This title unification bout was all but confirmed by UFC President Dana White when announced, win or lose, McGregor would be forced to drop back down to 145-pounds in order to face Aldo, who had already called for the fight at Madison Square Garden in New York City

But after defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 202 last month, McGregor revealed rematch against Aldo was the furthest thing form his mind, leading many to believe the Irishman was seeking a fight against lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez instead.

Not surprisingly, Aldo was none to pleased McGregor’s dismissal of their rematch.

“I’m already frustrated,” said Aldo during an interview with Brazilian media outlet Combate. “With all these things happening, I’m already really frustrated. Let’s see what happens. Every night I ask god ‘Please give me another chance. Let me get in the Octagon against [McGregor]. I know that it will be different this time.”

But if his rematch with McGregor doesn’t come to fruition, the Brazilian has another former champion in mind

“If it doesn’t end up happening, I would rather fight against [former UFC lightweight champ Anthony] Pettis,” revealed Pettis

Pettis (19-4), also a former WEC champion, earned a third round submission win in his featherweight debut over jiu-jitsu specialist Charles Oliveira. This victory got ‘Showtime’ back into the win column three straight decision losses to former lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos, current champ Eddie Alvarez and the surging Edson Barbzoa.

As a result of this string of misfortune, Pettis made the decision to drop down to 145-pounds in hopes of rejuvenating his career.

Both Pettis and Aldo were previously scheduled to throw down in superfight back in 2014. However, an injury forced Pettis out of the bout.

But one person not amused by the talk of Aldo potentially squaring off with someone coming off their first win in a new division, is featherweight top contender Max Holloway.

Taking to Twitter, Holloway shared a few words of warning for Aldo.

Holloway (16-3) is currently riding an incredible nine fight win streak, the longest a UFC fighter has gone without fighting for a UFC title. In his most recent effort, ‘Blessed’ earned an impressive decision win over former title Ricardo Lamas at UFC 199 in June.

Prior to this win, the young Hawaiian scored back-to-back stoppage wins over Cub Swanson and Oliveira before earning a decision over Jeremy Stephens. To date, his last loss came at the hands of current featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

The 24-year-old Hawaiian has also be calling for a fight against either Aldo or former lightweight turned featherweight title contender Franke Edgar.
