Jones, Machida make weight for UFC 140

Published Dec. 9, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Lyoto Machida both made weight without incident at Friday's official UFC 140 weigh-ins held at the Air Canada Centre, making their title clash on Saturday official.

Jones walked out to a chorus of boos, a drastic change from the overwhelming fan support he received ahead of previous bouts. The 24-year-old champion was unfazed by the response and he remains humble ahead of his second title defense.

"This is an awesome opportunity against an awesome opponent," said Jones. "I'm just so grateful for the whole situation. I can't wait to go out there and play this game that I'm so in love with."

Machida, who knocked out Randy Couture this past April in Toronto, is excited to be back fighting in Canada.

"This is a great opportunity for me, my second time fighting in Toronto," said Machida. "I hope to do a great job."

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir got up close for a heated staredown ahead of their heavyweight rematch in the co-main event. "Minotauro" weighed in at 239 pounds, while Mir tipped the scales at 260.

Meanwhile, UFC legend Tito Ortiz received a thunderous ovation as he weighed in for his light heavyweight bout with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira before they came face to face for the customary staredown.

On the preliminary card, welterweight Dennis Hallman failed to make weight for his lightweight bout with John Makdessi, which was the longtime veteran's first crack at the 155-pound division.

Makdessi weighed in at 155.5 pounds, while Hallman came in overweight at 158.5.
All other preliminary and main card fighters made weight, green-lighting Saturday's blockbuster return to Toronto.
