Outside of the cage, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is one of the most affable people you could every hope to encounter. All smiles and giggles, the 29-year-old for Salvador, Bahia, Brazil is the embodiment of what you would like all professional athletes to be when they’re interacting with fans and media.
But when the cage door closes, the smile turns into a scowl, the giggles replaced with an icy stare, and instead of offering a hug or a handshake, “Cigano” strides to the center of the cage and throws down the gauntlet.
Saturday night at UFC 166, the nicest knockout artist in the UFC will look to once again claim championship gold as he squares off with Cain Velasquez for the third time in two years. The two have traded victories – and the UFC heavyweight title – in their first two encounters, and this weekend’s third fight promises to be every bit as griping and exciting.
Speaking with UFC on FOX correspondent Ariel Helwani following Friday’s weigh-ins, the 16-2 challenger gave his prediction on how Saturday’s championship main event will play out.
