Jake Ellenberger vs. Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson added to UFC 189
A welterweight matchup has been added to an already stacked UFC 189 fight card as Jake Ellenberger meets Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson on July 11 in Las Vegas.
UFC officials confirmed the bout following an initial report from ESPN.
Ellenberger got a much needed win in his last fight as he defeated "Ultimate Fighter" season one veteran Josh Koscheck after dropping his three previous bouts.
The one-time title contender will look to build on that victory when he returns in July against one of the most dangerous strikers in the welterweight division.
Thompson came to the UFC has a karate wonder kid, but he's developed into a well-rounded fighter with some of the nastiest strikes in the sport.
Thompson will get his chance to crack the top 10 with a fight against Ellenberger after being forced out of his last bout in February when he suffered an injury and was unable to face Brandon Thatch at UFC Fight Night in Colorado.
Ellenberger vs. Thompson is the latest bout added to a huge card taking place at UFC 189, including the headliner pitting featherweight champion Jose Aldo against upstart contender Conor McGregor.
