Henderson calls out Silva on Twitter
The top of the middleweight division in the UFC is as crowded as it has ever been with no shortage of top contenders all wanting their shot at champion Anderson Silva.
Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, Mark Munoz and Michael Bisping have all staked their claims with recent wins, but the availability of the champ to face any of these opponents has been due to numerous injuries over the last couple of years, including a recent shoulder injury that has forced Silva to return home to heal.
In the meantime, the top contenders have had to make other plans. Despite numerous attempts to call out Silva, Sonnen will now face off with Munoz in a top contenders match at UFC on FOX 2 in Chicago on Jan. 28.
And now, staking a claim to Sonnen's rightful place as the king of trash-talking on Twitter, Henderson has taken a not-so-subtle jab at the champion and his injuries.
"All the 'injuries' that keep Anderson from a rematch with me or Chael will heal real fast if they offer Bisping to him," Henderson tweeted.
Bisping threw his name into the mix after defeating Jason "Mayhem" Miller on Saturday night during the finale of The Ultimate Fighter in a fight Henderson was not impressed with, tweeting that both coaches looked more like contestants than coaches during the fight.
Henderson is looking for his second shot at Silva. The two faced off at UFC 82 in 2008, unifying the UFC and Pride middleweight titles. Henderson got the better of Silva in the first round before seeming to run out of gas and submit to a rear naked choke in the second round.
Since then, Henderson has gone 7-1 in his last eight fights, capturing the Strikeforce light heavyweight championship and knocking out Fedor Emelianenko along the way, so he feels the time is right for his rematch with "The Spider."
For now, it looks like Henderson has accepted the fact he will not be the next in line for the title shot, but his recent win over Shogun Hua in arguably the greatest fight in UFC history puts him right at the top of the UFC light heavyweight division as well. He will be keeping a close eye on Saturday night's main event at UFC 140 between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida.
"I want whoever wins on Saturday," Henderson tweeted.
