Green-Trujillo, Larkin-Brunson added to UFC 176

Abel Trujillo and Bobby Green were supposed to meet in February until an injury scuttled those plans. The two will try it again.

The UFC lightweights have been paired off at UFC 176 on Aug. 2 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The promotion confirmed the matchup on Monday, along with a middleweight bout pairing of Lorenz Larkin vs. Derek Brunson.

Green (22-5) has slowly edged his way towards the top 10, having won seven straight including all three of his UFC bouts. In his most recent bout, he outworked veteran grinder Pat Healy en route to a unanimous decision victory.

Green's booking comes just over a week after his younger brother Mitchell Wayne Davis was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in San Bernardino, California. The tragic event occurred while Davis was working on a car with other family members, police said.

Trujillo (12-5, 1 no contest) is riding a two-fight win streak. After Green dropped out of their scheduled February matchup, Trujillo went on to knock out Jamie Varner, earning the most notable win of his career.

The middleweight fight pairs off two fighters looking to turn around their fortunes.

Brunson will be competing for the first time since having his jaw broken in a TKO loss to Yoel Romero in January. The North Carolina native, 11-3 overall, has won two of his three UFC bouts thus far.

Larkin will be in more need of a win. Though largely heralded for a creative striking style, he's lost two straight, dropping fights to Brad Tavares and Costas Philippou, the later coming via knockout just last month.

UFC 176 will be headlined by a featherweight title rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.
