Frankie Edgar responds to Jose Aldo's retirement talk: 'Life isn't fair'

It seems Jose Aldo has been on the forefront of everyone’s mind in the mixed martial arts community. After all, the current UFC interim featherweight champion made waves when he announced he was seeking his release from the biggest fight promotion in the world due to his ongoing frustration with the top brass.
While some fighters have expressed annoyance at the former 145-pound’s statement, Aldo’s former foe Frankie Edgar is not amongst them.
Appearing on The Luke Thomas show, the former lightweight champ turned featherweight title challenger sympathized with is Brazilian counterpart.
“I get his frustrations. I’ve been in his shoes, where you’re promised one thing and it doesn’t pan out. It’s an attraction, the people want to see these characters,” said Edgar. “What’s most important isn’t always the fight that involves yourself, and that’s where Aldo is at. He probably deserved a shot at being 145-pound champion, because Conor’s not coming back down, or a shot at Conor himself. That’s just the way it is, you just gotta deal with it, life isn’t fair.”
Aldo (26-2) earned his interim belt with a unanimous decision over former lightweight champion Edgar at UFC 200 earlier this year. This got him back into the win column after losing his undisputed title to current champ Conor McGregor following a stunning 13-second knockout in their title fight at UFC 194 in December.
While it was widely believed Aldo had done enough to earn his rematch against Mcgregor, the UFC ultimately booked Edgar’s teammate, and UFC lightweight champ, Eddie Alvarez, against McGregor in the night’s main event of UFC 205.
“I think Eddie could go out there and sling it out with Conor, no doubt,” said Edgar when pressed for a prediction. “He has great cage control, takedowns against the fence. Eddie has that dog in him though. He might go out there and trade with Conor, but the takedown is always there. If anyone had the takedown against McGregor it was Chad Mendes, and it really worked well for him there.”
Edgar is currently looking to rebound from his los to Aldo against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205 as well.
