Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone: 'Khabib is getting under my skin'
On Saturday, the UFC got a new lightweight champion in Rafael dos Anjos. Dominant as the Brazilian looked against defending champ Anthony Pettis, his win also gave title hopes to at least a couple other top lightweights.
Khabib Nurmagomedov, for one, beat dos Anjos not a year ago. He no doubt feels that his chance at becoming world champ are at an all-time high.
Of course, he'll first have to get past Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. Cerrone hasn't lost since Aug. 2013 to, you guessed it, dos Anjos.
That loss was by decision and Cerrone, who currently rides a seven-fight win streak, believes he could avenge the loss if given the chance. If "Cowboy" gets back the suddenly trash-talking Khabib, he'll likely get his shot.
Make no mistake about it, Cerrone is extra-motivated to beat down the undefeated Russian in May at UFC 187. "I will leave nothing in the [expletive] cage," Cerrone told fans during a fan Q&A before the UFC 185 weigh-ins on Friday afternoon in Dallas.
"The [Benson] Henderson fight, I left a lot out there. But I plan on getting Khabib. He's really getting under my skin. He's doing a good job talking [expletive] on Twitter, and trying to get under me, and it's working. So, I'm stocking that up and I'm going to come [expletive] unglued."
After UFC 185, Cerrone told Megan Olivi that, though he initially wanted to win the UFC belt from Anthony Pettis, whom he lost to in 2013 by KO, he is fine with clearing out the division as well. "I'm never opposed to fighting anybody," he said.
"Fighting, beating [Nurmagomedov], Dos Anjos, then tell Pettis to come on. Come on with it. I'm the new and improved Cowboy. I'm coming for the [expletive] belt."
