Dodson-Moraga, Pettis-Meza added to UFC Fight Night in Albuquerque
It looks like John Dodson will not be getting a title rematch just yet.
Dodson, one of the top flyweights in the world, meets John Moraga at UFC Fight Night in Albuquerque, N.M., on June 7, the Albuquerque Journal reported Wednesday. UFC officials confirmed the booking. Dodson beat Moraga in 2010 under the Nemesis Fighting banner.
Also added to the event Wednesday was a bantamweight bout between prospect Sergio Pettis and Yaotzin Meza, the UFC announced.
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson told FOX Sports last month that Dodson could be his next opponent. The two have already fought with Johnson winning a unanimous decision at FOX UFC Saturday in January 2013.
Since then, Dodson (15-6) has fought just once, a brutal first-round knockout of Darrel Montague in October at UFC 166. The Albuquerque native was supposed to fight Scott Jorgensen in December at FOX UFC Saturday, but had to withdraw due to a knee injury. Dodson, 29, is one of the most athletic fighters in the UFC and arguably the flyweight with the most punching power. He's No. 1 among 125-pound contenders in the UFC rankings.
Moraga (14-2) has also already lost to Johnson, by submission at FOX UFC Saturday back in July. He's coming off a controversial decision win over Dustin Ortiz in January in Duluth, Ga. The 30-year-old is a former two-time freestyle wrestling All-American at Arizona State. He's No. 4 in the UFC flyweight rankings.
Pettis (10-1), the younger brother of lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, is coming off a submission loss to Alex Caceres at FOX UFC Saturday in January. At just 20 years old, he remains a top prospect. Meza (20-9), 33, is coming off a loss on that very same card to Chico Camus.
UFC Fight Night in Albuquerque is headlined by a lightweight contender bout between former champion Benson Henderson and Rustam Khabilov.
