Dennis Bermudez vs. Jeremy Stephens set for UFC 189

Published Mar. 30, 2015 10:00 p.m. ET

A new featherweight bout has been added to an already stacked UFC 189 card in July as Dennis Bermudez meets Jeremy Stephens.

Bermudez was riding high on a seven-fight win streak prior to his last bout at UFC 180, where he suffered his first loss in nearly three years when he fell to top-five-ranked featherweight Ricardo Lamas.

Prior to the loss in late 2014, Bermudez had put together an impressive run with victories over names such as Clay Guida, Max Holloway and Jimy Hettes.

Facing Bermudez in July is heavy-hitting 145-pound threat Jeremy Stephens, who looks to bounce back from two straight losses in the Octagon.

Stephens made quite an impact when he first dropped down to featherweight after spending most of his career as a lightweight.  Stephens took out three fighters in a row before battling to a close decision with Cub Swanson last year.

Stephens suffered his second consecutive defeat to Charles Oliveira in a hard-fought battle last December and now looks to get back on track when he faces Bermudez in July.

Bermudez vs. Stephens is the latest addition to UFC 189, which features two title fights -- Jose Aldo against Conor McGregor and Robbie Lawler facing Rory MacDonald.
