Dana White: 'Ronda Rousey absolutely wants to fight Cyborg'
According to Dana White, former champ Ronda Rousey is looking to throw down with longtime rival Cris “Cyborg” Justino.
Ronda Rousey is already guaranteed an immediate title shot if and when she ever decides to make her long-awaited return to the UFC Octagon.
However, the biggest fight she could potentially accept isn’t necessarily a match-up against the current champion but against the woman she’s been linked to ever since she broke into the UFC back in 2013, Cris “Cyborg” Justino.
Justino (17-1), the Invicta FC featherweight champion, made her highly anticipated UFC debut in May with a violent a first-round knockout over Leslie Smith at UFC 198. She followed this up with another first round destruction, this time against Lina Länsberg in the main event of UFC Fight Night 95 last Saturday.
In the past, Rousey, the former bantamweight champion, made it clear she would not consider taking the super fight unless Cyborg dropped down to her weight class of 135-pounds.
But now, according to UFC President Dana White, the woman known as ‘Rowdy’ is once again itching for a fight with her Brazilian rival.
“Ronda wants to fight her,” White told TMZSports. “She absolutely, positively wants to fight Cyborg. We’re talking about [Rousey] coming back this year so we’ll see what happens.”
Rousey (12-1) has not been seen since suffering a violent second round head kick knockout to Holly Holm in their UFC 193. Following her first professional loss, Rousey revealed she was “really f*cking sad” in the interview with ESPN, a far cry from the woman who made a name for herself with her in–your–face attitude and don’t be a ‘Do Nothing B*tch‘ mantra.
Rightfully so, she stepped away from the spotlight.
“Ronda wanted time off,” said White. “She busted her ass for four years, wanted time off, deserved time off. She had a bunch of littler injuries fixed up she needed to work on. But now she’s getting nasty again her heads in the right place, so I’m hoping we see her soon.”
