Dana White on Glover Teixeira vs. Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson: 'I like that fight'

Published Apr. 17, 2016 12:40 a.m. ET

Following his first round knockout over Rashad Evans on Saturday night, Glover Teixeira wasted no time making a respectful call out to Anthony "Rumble" Johnson for his next Octagon fight.

Teixeira is currently riding a three-fight win streak with the victory over Evans while Johnson just won back-to-back fights, including a first round stoppage over Ryan Bader in January.

With the light heavyweight title tied up until Daniel Cormier is healthy again, a fight between Teixeira and Johnson seems to make a lot of sense. And UFC president Dana White was certainly listening.

"It's funny, when he called him out I go, 'Ooh, I like that fight.' That's a fun fight," White told FOX Sports. "Glover looked awesome tonight. Rashad Evans is always a dangerous guy. Rashad has speed in his hands, he has knockout power himself and he got caught.

"You know I don't make fights after fights, but I've got to be honest when he called [Johnson] out, I like that fight."

Teixeira vs. Johnson might be the only logical choice in the division given the current standing at light heavyweight.

Jon Jones returns next weekend at UFC 197 to battle Ovince Saint Preux for an interim title. The winner will then battle Cormier to unify the belts later this year.

That leaves Teixeira and Johnson on the outside looking in, most likely for the remainder of 2016 if either is hoping for a title shot.

Given that outlook, Teixeira facing Johnson could be just the fight the division needs to declare another No. 1 contender, who could then fight the champion in early 2017.

As of now no decisions have been made, but Johnson had a big smile on his face in the crowd when Teixeira mentioned his name following the win. With White already bestowing his blessing on the fight as well, Teixeira and Johnson could be on a collision course in the near future.
