Dana White doesn't want Nate Diaz to 'get screwed' by the Conor McGregor fiasco

Published Apr. 21, 2016 1:19 p.m. ET

Now that Conor McGregor is officially out of UFC 200, the UFC is out of a main event for the historic card and lightweight contender Nate Diaz is without an opponent.

But according to UFC president Dana White, the fight promotion doesn't want Diaz to be too seriously affected and they are feverishly looking for a replacement.

McGregor was pulled from UFC 200 on Tuesday after failing to agree to show up to various media obligations this week. White originally gave McGregor what seemed like a midnight deadline to reach out to the promotion while speaking to Colin Cowherd on Tuesday, but after still not hearing back from the Irishman, they had no choice but to move on.

McGregor released a statement Thursday stating that the promotional burden has distracted him from properly preparing for the highly anticipated rematch.

Given the current landscape of the lightweight and welterweight divisions, coupled with the magnitude of UFC 200, the promotion doesn't have a surplus of options. But fans are hoping the UFC can get something done so that Diaz can remain on the July fight card.
