Dan Henderson vs. Gegard Mousasi set as co-main event for Sweden
Dan Henderson will drop back down to middleweight for his next fight in the Octagon as he takes on former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event for UFC Fight Night on FOX on Jan. 24 from Sweden.
UFC officials announced the new pairing Wednesday.
Henderson (30-12) returns to action for the first time since May, when he lost by submission to current top-ranked light heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier. After the fight, Henderson mentioned the possibility that he could return to the middleweight division where he's spent a sizable chunk of his career.
Henderson's previous UFC run saw him fight mostly at middleweight including his 2008 title fight against Anderson Silva as well as his iconic knockout over Michael Bisping at UFC 100 in 2009. Henderson, who just turned 44 in August, will drop back down to 185 pounds for the first time since 2010 when he battled Jake Shields in Strikeforce.
Mousasi (35-5-2) will also be coming back from a loss in his last fight, when he was submitted by Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in September. The defeat dropped Mousasi to 1-2 since moving back to middleweight in the UFC, so the upcoming fight with Henderson will definitely be make or break as he looks to stay relevant in a growing 185-pound division.
The main event will put Alexander Gustafsson against Anthony Johnson in a No. 1 contender's match in the light heavyweight division.
UFC Fight Night on FOX: Gustafsson vs. Johnson will take place at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, with the main card airing in the United States starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
